What we think about Crayola Create & Play
We have been playing with the Crayola Create & Play for many months now actually. I rarely buy apps for my daughter but after watching her play with the free trial, I saw that it would be a game she would play regularly. Also, we struggle still with getting her to work on her letters, so when I saw that letter practice was part of the app, it made me super happy! The best part is that she sees this as a fun app for kids, not as a learning tool!
The best things about the app:
I love that the game is ad-free! She has a few apps that aren’t ad-free or have product placement within the game, and I don’t like worrying whether the ads are appropriate or being bombarded with requests for every toy she sees in a game! I love seeing her build her creative confidence as she expresses herself through art online in-game. Also, having new content every month is fabulous! It keeps her interested and engaged in the game.
What I think about the app as an Autism Mom:
I am really picky about what apps and games I let my autistic daughter play. I know all children with autism are different. However, with her, she struggles with playing video games or mobile apps for long periods of time. We have the most meltdowns when she has played a game for too long. Crayola Create & Play has not been that kind of game for us. She practices art techniques and self expression. Plus she is learning letters and doing other STEAM and STEM activities. This app doesn’t hype her all up but rather keeps her engaged, calm, and having fun while also learning new things!
