Ok, so I am a little late for posting, but we have all been busy this week with activities, meetings, trick or treating…life stuff. Lucy was originally going to post this week for our cross-cultural weekly post, but she forgot. And I forgot to remind you. So I thought I would share some other stuff instead.
I constantly am in awe of the dynamic in our house. Yeah, we’re all busy, I am stressed, and sometimes most times, chaos reigns supreme, but it’s still great! I guess I am not screwing up too bad because Lucy asked me the other week if she could stay here for the whole school year. (She was originally on the semester program.) Of course, I said yes! How could I not? She is a sweetheart. They both are. They are both so full of life and so excited about everything.
Tonight they took the kids trick or treating, not because I asked them to or anything, but because they wanted to experience the whole thing of going door to door with the kids asking for candy. This weekend, they also want to carve pumpkins. Ok, so this one makes me a little nervous because I have no idea what I am doing, but I did buy some dropcloths for the table. I have some good steak knives. That should do it. Right? I will keep you all posted on what happens!
It’s all going pretty well. I have been asked what it is like to have two 17 year olds in the house, and since I am not really old enough to be their mother, I kinda feel like a cross between an aunt and an older sister. We joke, we talk, we share ourselves. We are all a family. They might not be blood relatives, but they will always be a part of our family.
I like that. I am all for having more in my family. It is part of the reason I became a host parent. I am enjoying it, and I am glad the girls are enjoying it here as well!
