Exchange Students

My how time flies

The girls have finally finished their first semester, and I am proud to say that they are both honor students! I can’t believe their stay with us is already half over. In some ways, it feels like they have been with us forever. In others, it feels like they just got here.
I was thinking about something the other day. Lucy, our student from Slovakia, was originally supposed to be here only until the end of this month. She came to me in October and asked me if she could stay with us for the entire school year. Of course I said yes! She and Mariana have been such a positive addition to our family and have blended in with us so well. I guess the funny thing about it though is that she was supposed to be with us the shortest amount of time but will now actually be with us the longest because she is staying most of June in order to participate in the dance recital at the studio she and my children attend which also means she will be here for my children’s birthdays which will of course make them happy.
The girls have adjusted well to life in our small town. I know they are kind of bored now. In the winter here, there is not a lot to do. We have a lot of movie nights. Actually, I think I have seen more movies in the past few months than in quite a long time. I am starting to get hooked on romantic comedies. Just don’t tell anyone, especially my husband, as I don’t want to be labeled as a softie.
I think the only drawback is that I have discovered we do not have enough bathrooms or closet space in this house. I am not kidding! I have always thought that our two bathrooms are plenty. Not anymore! I have learned that from the hours of 6am-7:30am, there is no bathroom. So if you live here, you need to hope you don’t have to go during that time because you just won’t be able to get a chance. As for the closet issue, I have never seen two people have so many coats in my life. I think they multiply with water or something. We now have coats in the mud room and basement. And don’t get me started on shoes… Although I will say that my husband can NEVER say anything about my shoe fetish ever again, and I have the girls to thank for that! Thank you girls!!!
Each of our experiences as a host family has been different, and I really enjoy it. I just can’t believe how fast the time goes.

The funny monkeys at movie time!
