Because my son thrives on routine, I recently took a look on how our routine has gotten all jumbled, so I tried to get us all back into the groove. In the process, our family has started Family Night.

For us, Family Night takes place Thursday nights in our house. We start off by having Pizza, which the kids absolutely love. When we have extra in the budget, we might order delivery, but more often than not, we get the cheap personal pizzas from the freezer section (which by the way have been having a lot of coupons lately) and add our own personal touches to them like mushrooms, onions, pepperoni, pineapple, etc… You get the picture.

So after we have stuffed ourselves, we pick out a movie or play games on the Wii. It is not really important what we do, just that we spend time together doing it. The kids have come to anticipate Thursday nights and get really excited about our Family Night. While we spend a lot of time as a family, this night is just about enjoying each other’s company and relaxing.

Do you have a tradition like this in your family? If so, I would love to hear about it!

  1. Thanks for following my blog, I subscribed to yours and am enjoying what I am reading so far on it!

For us our pizza night, we make homemade pizzas, the kids LOVE helping make pizza and love it more than ordering and it can be just as cheap as frozen ones! The one thing we do when we can is have a CO-sleep night where we all make up our bedrolls in the living room, grab some kind of snack like popcorn or rootbeer floats, and pop movies in. After the movies we make up our own story where each member of the family says one sentence and it goes to each member all adding a new sentence to it, they can turn out to be quite the story!

  2. I love Family Night too. We don’t have a set night but we do it as often as we can. It usually includes a movie and a special sugary treat 🙂

I am visiting today from the Relax and Surf blog hop. It is nice to meet you. I hope you have a great week.

  3. I love Family Night as well. We have two at our house. 1 is Family Movie night with pizza and popcorn and the kids pick the movie. The second is Family Game Night with fun snacks and the kids get to pick the game. I love those moments!

  4. Between September and June, we have ‘Family Nights’ on Thursdays, which are also Scout Nights. My husband is a Den Leader for my middle son’s den (Webelos), and I am an Akela (parental guide) for my youngest son in his den (Wolf). We spend time together in the same gymnasium, kind of separate-but-together, but afterwards, we ALWAYS go to the local pizza shop for their $5 medium cheese pizza. This is a day where we know we will be dining together, because some nights we just can’t due to school work, their dad comes home late, they spend the night elsewhere, etc.

PS: Even during the summer, we have pizza on Thursdays! 🙂

  5. I’m here from the R&S blog hop! I love this idea 🙂
My family had a ‘kind of’ family night when I was young, and my husband’s had family nights often too. We cannot wait to start one with our baby…she’s just 6 months old though 🙂

Hope to see you around my blog:
