I have a stuffed animal named “Blue Bear” because he is blue. I have had him since I was a little kid. He is a little worn and tattered. He has had a few repairs over the years. Yet, he has traveled the world with me and is sitting in my bedroom right now. My uncle won him for me when I was young. I had my choice of any animal, but I chose the one that had been pushed off to the side. To me, I thought he seemed lonely and needed someone to love. It was love at first sight! That bear has been through a lot. He has been there through my hurts as a child, my teenage angst, and first crush. He has comforted me through my first heartbreak, the loss of loved ones, and the worst of thunderstorms. He is an important part of me.
While I will be focusing more on toys in the next year and less on the party planning, my stuffable animals have always been my first love. I love seeing the look on a child’s face after they have made a bear with me. I love hearing stories about children who made a bear with me years ago that still sleep with their animal. I love knowing that their animals may be their “Blue Bear.” It is one of the coolest things in the world.
I know in some ways it is easier to go with the big box store, like it would have been easier for me to pick an animal that day from the big pile, but there is something special about going with something a little different, like I did with “Blue Bear.” He may not have been as fancy as those other bears, may not have been full of bells and whistles, but he has a lot of heart, and that is why I love him so much.
It is my hope that when people stuff a bear with me that they gets that personal experience that you won’t get anywhere else and that they will have something to cherish for many years like I have with some of my special stuffed animals like Blue Bear! I hope that children use their buddy to calm them when they are scared, comfort them when they are sad, and creates many adventures for them and their buddy.
Stuffed animals are some of the first toys that a child receives, and they are so simple. Sometimes children need to just play with simple toys, and that is why they are so special to me!
