Use everyday activities as learning tools

Make learning and everyday life one and the same. It is so easy to get caught up in written school work but the learning doesn’t end with paper. Look for ways to blend school and everyday life together, like using mealtime as a great opportunity to teach your child. Cooking
allows you to work on everything from math to nutrition with your child.

Teaching your child how to do basic tasks for caring for your home, like daily chores, teaches them home economics. Use activities, like
shopping for groceries, as a tool for teaching budgeting skills.

Balance Life and Homeschooling by Setting Boundaries

Set school hours for classical education. At the end of those hours put the school books and reports away. Allow your family to have a separation between school and family life. This helps reduce stress and give your family time to connect and follow their individual interests. Don’t try to recreate school at home by having your child spend 8 hours a day at the table. Homeschooling takes considerably less time when you account for the fact your child is not waiting on 30 other kids to complete tasks.

Make Time for yourself

Set time for yourself each day. Allow your kids to explore hobbies and interests of their own while you enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book. It is okay to spend time making sure you have a sense of life outside of homeschooling your kids.

Get creative when it comes to time with your partner. When your kids are home 24/7, finding alone time to spend with your partner can be hard. Take some time regularly to spend with just the two of you. If nothing else, put the kids to bed and cook a meal together, just the two of you.

Enlist your family to help around the house

Enlist your family to help you around the house. When your kids are home, it is easy to find yourself cleaning day in and day out with no end in sight. Having kids home all day means you go through more food, and your house is constantly in use.

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Don’t deprive yourself of sleep to make things work. It can be tempting to get up early or stay up late to find more time in your day to make life fit with parenting and homeschooling. However, this leaves you run down and negatively affects your health and energy levels. Taking care of your basic needs gives you more energy and helps you do more in less time making for a much better way to find more time in your day.
