When it comes to homeschool, there is no “One Size Fits All” approach to both learning and teaching. When trying a new homeschool curriculum, a parent must consider the child using it but also the parent helping the child with it. So what happens when you need to teach a subject that is not your strong suit? I am glad you asked! Today, we are going to talk about how to find a homeschool curriculum that works for you as a parent.

One way you can Homeschool if you aren’t confident in certain subjects?
One objection that newbies and outsiders to the homeschool community have about homeschooling is the idea that one cannot homeschool unless they excelled in all subjects. Let’s face it, we all have our weak spots. That doesn’t mean we can’t equip ourselves with what we need to help our children grow and learn.
First of all, I recommend joining a homeschool community, preferably a local one. In a local community, you can gather with other homeschool families and share knowledge as well as socialize with others. In many areas, you can find local co-ops where your family gets together with other families for learning sessions, socialization, and field trips. Oftentimes, it is a great way to cover subjects for a well-rounded education. If you don’t have a local co-op, you can always do things on a smaller level with a couple of local homeschool families. We actually did that when my big kids were younger the first couple of years we lived here. We did art, language arts, history, and other subjects as a group with a few other families we knew. It was fun and allowed the parents involved to let their knowledge and talents shine in teaching our kids as a small group.
This is just one way to do things. Let’s talk about picking a curriculum that works for you and your children for everyday use.
Finding a Homeschool Curriculum that works for you
One of the biggest challenges for me as a homeschool parent has been teaching math. While I did well at math, I don’t feel confident teaching it, especially at upper levels. Luckily for me, I found Teaching Textbooks. Teaching Textbooks is a fabulous program for taking the stress out of teaching math. Here are just a few reasons why it works great for homeschool parents:
Teaching Textbooks made its program very hands-free for parents. They have made a lot of strides in making it so that parents don’t have to worry about anything at all when their children are using their program. With full audiovisual explanations of every solution, instant automated grading, and hints at key points to allow kids to work independently and second chances, Teaching Textbooks replaces the need for parents to teach their children math.
Other key features for Parents for Teaching Textbooks
It has its very own parent portal where you can log into any browser without downloading the app and check grade information. Also, you can see what work was completed, and even pause the enrollments if needed. You can see a course average for each child, as well as a visual to see when each assignment has been completed.
For those parents wanting to assign a grade, the Teaching Textbooks app has added a cumulative grade point average so you can see at a glance how your child is doing.
Finally, if a child is struggling with their math and parents need added support, you can call Teaching Textbooks customer service and request a tutor to call them back.
I highly recommend checking out Teaching Textbooks. You can even get a free trial too! Using programs that take out the stress and help make you a confident homeschool parent is super important. I know I use Teaching Textbooks a lot as an example, but it is one program that really helps both students AND parents!
The Wrap Up
When homeschooling, it is not only important to find a curriculum that works for your children, but it is also important to find a homeschool curriculum that works for you as a parent. Teaching Textbooks makes a great program for math that does just that. I hope you found my ideas helpful! What other helpful advice would you give to homeschool families to make their lives easier?

Thanks for the informative post! Sounds like a good program.
This is great advice, thank you so much for sharing this! As a homeschool mom I am always looking for new resources! My youngest two have a hard time staying focused so I am constantly coming up with new ways to keep them interested.
I never homeschooled my child, but I bet it’s not easy to find a program that works for the parent homeschooling! Glad there are so many curriculums out there.
This sounds very helpful for home schoolers.
