Why Learn A Foreign Language?

Familiarizing yourself with other languages and cultures is a great way to grow as a person and explore the world! Over the years, I studied four different languages: Spanish, Polish, Bosnian, and Russian. We hosted exchange students from Brazil, France, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, and Vietnam. Learning a foreign language, especially Spanish comes in handy in many situations in life. It can help you as you travel or even help you in getting a job.

I want my kids to learn Spanish because I believe it will help them understand other cultures, and it may help them in other aspects. Also, language acquisition is a lot easier when you are young. It gets harder as you get older, so I want to give them a great start!

With Excelerate Spanish, homeschool students learn Spanish vocabulary in context with a story and questions. It is a self-paced video series, and you can learn Spanish fast without anxiety.

About Excelerate SPANISH for a Homeschool Spanish Program

Currently, my older daughter and I are taking Spanish One from the Excelerate SPANISH Streaming. This program contains 24 lessons. When we finish, we will start the Spanish Two, which also contains 24 lessons.

Each lesson lasts about 30-35 minutes. The lessons begin with relevant vocabulary used in the lesson. From there, the lessons get very interactive, and the students watching the streamed lessons are encouraged to participate at home.

Caryn Hommel, author and homeschool mom with years of experience teaching ESL, teaches the lessons in a fun, interactive way. She incorporates skits, stories, and hand gestures to help you learn. Total Physical Response (TPR) teaching technique is used for these lessons. Studies have shown it to be a very effective tool in learning foreign languages.

With these lessons, you can go as quickly or as slow as you need to go. You may need to watch the lesson a few times before moving to the next. That is okay. The goal is to retain the language.

What you need for this Program

While the streaming version doesn’t come with books, you can purchase workbooks if needed. It is really up to you. Vocabulary review and practice (including flashcards, games and quizzes) are available for FREE on the Quizlet website.

Also, you want to make sure you have a notebook for taking notes. I also suggest having a Spanish Dictionary. Yes, I know you can use your phone or an online version, but I always find a hard copy helpful.

What We Like About Excelerate SPANISH

There is so much we enjoy about this homeschool Spanish program. My daughter loves that she can re-watch lessons. I love how you are immersed into the language from day one. My best language learning experiences have always happened by being immersed in the language.

We love that it is interactive. We laugh and have fun with it. Also, because she uses a lot of hand gestures, it helps in remembering the vocabulary used. This program is very organized, and I am hoping that this will be a great way for my daughter to learn the language. I am also happy to be brushing up on my skills.
