As you know, I love to provide resources to all the parents that read my blog. Since some of you own businesses and blog, I wanted to share about a challenge I just completed based on the book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers by Russell Brunson. The knowledge I gained from this book is helping me plan as I go forward into some new directions with what I am doing as a blogger and business owner!
So Who Is Russell Brunson?
Before I share my experience, I want to share a bit about Russell Brunson for those who don’t know about him. Russell Brunson is the CEO of a $100M software company called ClickFunnels. In 2014, Russell and partner Todd Dickerson launched ClickFunnels, which became the fastest-growing non-venture backed software company in the world. He has taken his knowledge and used it in writing books and is a best selling author. Also, he built a following of over a million entrepreneurs, sold hundreds of thousands of copies of his books, and popularized the concept of sales funnels. Let’s just say he is someone who knows what he is doing!
Traffic Secrets is his newest book. It reveals the classic and foundational direct marketing techniques that puts you in front of new trends. Through this book, you will see opportunities that are invisible to everyone else. Russell Brunson also shows how to master evergreen traffic strategies in order to funnel customers and followers to your website.
What I learned from Traffic Secrets
When I first got information about this opportunity, I was intrigued. I have been blogging for 10 years now and write two very different blogs. Also, I am getting ready to re-launch a boutique later this year. Even though I have blogged a long time, I took a break because of health reasons. I dove back into blogging and social media as soon as I could. However, I sometimes feel I lack direction and am spinning my wheels. As I wish to make this my career, I definitely need to get some clarity and soon!
Who are my Dream Customers?
Traffic Secrets asks the questions: Who are your dream customers and where are they? In my case, as a blogger, customers equal my followers. Who are my dream followers anyways? I sort of know this question. However, this made me put a little more thought into who my followers are as people and what do they want from reading my blog.
The exercises for these questions made me look at what my followers are reading, the types of pages they follow, and what podcasts they listen to. This is all information that I haven’t put as much though lately. As I started thinking about that, I started asking my audience questions. I wanted to make sure I am giving them the information they want from my blogs.
My Hook, My Story, My Offer
These concepts were the most important lessons for me in this book. The content I provide here is meant to help parents and homeschool families. Before I got sick, I prided myself on connecting with my followers based on my personal stories. Those stories were meant to provide common threads, that feeling of not being alone.
As I started blogging and doing social media again, I lost some of that. I got caught up in seo, follower counts, and trying to get back to the place I was before I got sick. However, in doing that, I have taken out a big part of what makes my blogs different: my story. I still have great hooks and offer great content in providing reviews, crafts, and printables that all of you can use. However, I have lost a lot of that personal touch that many of my followers were used to seeing.
I did some experimenting this past month on social media with some of my posts. I asked questions. Plus, I shared stories. Do you know what I found? I found a great response to THAT content! With that in mind, it provided me with knowledge of what I need to do going forward. Memes are fun and all, but it isn’t what gets me blog views.

I enjoyed the Traffic Secrets book also! I never really understood the importance of using my story to draw in followers/customers, but it was probably one of the most valuable pieces of info that I learned from the book. I was also a Twitter newbie when the challenge began and I was actually able to grow a small following thanks to the tips from the book.
There were so many great takeaways from this book! It really helped me narrow down things for my blog as well!
I totally get the lacking direction part. I have felt this way all too often. Traffic Secrets most definitely helped me to fine-tune where I wanted to take my blog and who I wanted my audience to consist of.
