Got Peeps? Then I have a fun, easy project for you and your kids for Easter break! Build a marshmallow Peeps House with your kids using this fun tutorial! I have a step-by-step guide for you, and it makes a fun little edible centerpiece or Easter kid’s snack too!
Marshmallow Peeps House Tutorial
Time: 10-15 minutes
Materials Needed:
● 5 Frosted Confetti Cupcake Pop-Tarts
● Knife
● Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Strawberry Frosting
● Sandwich size plastic bag
● Kitchen Shears
● Pastel colored sprinkles mix ( I found mine at Walmart, but Amazon has
some cute ones too.)
● Easter Grass Bubblegum
● Peeps Marshmallow Bunnies
● M&M’s Peanut Butter Eggs
Directions:
1. Start by cutting two pop-tarts in half.
2. Next, cut just the top corners off at
an angle on two of the pop-tarts. I placed one on top of the other to cut,
so that the cuts would be the same.
3. Place a sandwich bag open over one hand, and fill the bag with the
strawberry frosting. You will only need about a ⅓ c of the icing for one
Peep House. Using kitchen shears, cut just the tip of the bag.
4. Pipe frosting onto one of the 4 halved pop-tarts on the shorter side.
Immediately attach it to the back of one of the pop-tarts with the
corners removed. Repeat this process to attach another of the halved
pop-tarts to the opposite side, and then attach the other pop-tart with
the corners removed to the back. Cut approximately ⅕ off the top of the last pop-tart, pipe some frosting down the sides, and then place it inside
the pop-tart house to create a support. (I tried not adding the support in
the middle, and the sides and roof collapsed, so be sure not to skip this
step.)
5. Next, pipe frosting all around the remaining pop-tart halves, and place
them at an angle to make the roof. Add extra frosting around all the
seams, and smooth with the knife if necessary. Immediately add
sprinkles along the seams while the frosting is freshly applied, as it helps
the sprinkles stick better.
6. Place some of the Easter Grass Bubblegum around the bottom of the
house. Pipe a little frosting on the back of the Peeps Bunnies and attach
to the front and back of the house.
7. Last, pipe some frosting onto the grass, and place the M&M eggs around
the bottom of the house. Your Peeps House is now ready to display
and/or eat.
Tips/Helpful Hints:
● If you can’t find the Easter Grass bubblegum, you could substitute some
shredded coconut mixed with a little green food coloring.
● There are so many fun and colorful varieties of Peeps. You can switch the
Peeps bunny for a chick, or even do one of each.
● If marshmallows aren’t your favorite, substitute the Peep for a chocolate
bunny.
● Not a fan of Pop-tarts? Or need to make it a little more budget friendly?
Try building the house with graham crackers instead of Pop-tarts.
