Candy Cane Colored Sugar Cookie Recipe

While this is my most labor-intensive recipe for this holiday season, it is definitely worth trying! Today, I am sharing this fun recipe to make candy cane-colored sugar cookies! Also, if you are liking my Disney-themed desserts, you will enjoy using the Mickey-shaped cookie cutter for these! However, feel free to use a regular candy cane one too! So let’s get started!

Candy Cane Colored Sugar Cookies

Candy Cane Colored Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 cup unsalted softened butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
• 2 1/2 cups flour
• 1 large egg
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
• Red gel food coloring
• ½ tsp peppermint extract (optional)

Instructions

1.) Combine butter with sugar and beat until creamy.
2.) Add egg and vanilla extract, then beat until completely combined.
3.) In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
4.) Gradually add dry ingredients into wet ingredients until completely combined.
5.) Separate dough into two sections.
6.) Add red gel coloring to one section until desired shade of red is achieved. Leave the other one plain.
7.) Add peppermint extract to only red section of the dough. This optional step adds a hint of
peppermint flavoring to the cookie.
8.) Wrap and let chill in refrigerator for at least an hour.

9.) When dough has chilled, preheat oven to 375.
10.) Roll strips of dough and alternate each color onto a floured surface.
11.) Roll out dough and begin cutting out shapes with your cookie cutter.
12.) Press any leftover scraps together and roll to make more.
13.) Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown
