Why Sensory bins?

Sensory bins are a fun way to build fine motor skills, support emotional regulation, support sensory processing, and encourage hands-on learning. Using tweezers and tongs helps build hand muscles and hand-eye coordination. When kids use their hands to touch items in the bins, they explore with their senses, which can help them identify different textures. Also, the repetitive motions of scooping and sifting with their hands can help regulate their emotions and calm them.

I love using sensory bins with my kids. My youngest definitely uses his to help him regulate his emotions. He is Autistic and is currently going through occupational therapy. As he progresses in therapy, he uses tools more while playing, which is strengthening his ability to grasp small things. I am always so excited to see how much more he can do.  Changing up the sensory bins gives him fresh ways to practice what he is learning!
