How to Start Organizing Your Whole House

Home Organization can be overwhelming, so let’s start small! Start with your closets. Make piles of old clothes, toys, coats, etc… to get rid of or donate.

Once you tackle the closets, move on to your storage room or attic. Have you gone through the contents of your storage area in a while? If not, take a look in each bin. Ask yourself if these are things you need, really want, or will use? If the answer is no, then get rid of it. Then make sure to label all your storage containers.

After you tackle your storage area, pick one room of your house to organize. Clean the furniture in that room, dust if needed, wash linens, and look for clutter. Figure out storage solutions for things that don’t have a home, and get rid of things that you no longer need or want from that room…ie clothes, old magazines, home decor that doesn’t match or fit in with your style. Target and Big Lots are my go-to places for home organization. They both have a pretty decent selection and prices to fit every budget!

How to Organize without feeling overwhelmed

When I say organize room by room, I don’t mean to do it all in one day. If you don’t have a lot of time, start with the closets one weekend and move to the storage area the next. Then do one or two rooms a weekend until done. If you have a little more time, devote a week to organizing your home and tackle a few every day. Don’t try to do this all at once. You will get overwhelmed, tired, and defeat the purpose of doing this. The purpose of organizing is to not only declutter and revamp your space, but to also provide a sanctuary for yourself in your home.
