Having gluten and dairy allergies is no fun! That is why I love this chocolate avocado recipe so much. It is easy to make, and my whole family loves it! Plus there are no refined sugars! So read on to see why this will be a family favorite or skip to the bottom for the recipe!
Why Eat Avocados?
Avocados are a great source of nutrition. Granted, they have been used recently as the symbol of being bougie. However, they really aren’t as expensive as one might think. Just head over to your local Aldi, and you will see what I mean!
Here are just some benefits of Avocados!
- more potassium than a banana
- loaded with fiber
- heart-healthy with Monounsaturated Fatty Acids
- Helps lower cholesterol
- contains natural folic acid
They are really a super food to keep handy. Also, they are very versatile. Most people think of guacamole or avocado toast when they hear the word avocado. However, you can also use them in desserts and add them to many other dishes to add more flavor and nutrients!
Chocolate Avocado Pudding:
2 Ripe Avocados (Hass Avocados are recommended)
1/2 c Raw Honey (or Agave Nectar)
1/2 c Cocoa Powder
1 t Vanilla (or to taste)
Mash the avocados and then blend until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until everything is smooth.
We could not taste the avocado in it and is now my new favorite dessert!
Final Thoughts
I originally published this recipe back in 2011. Maybe eventually I will get around to adding some better photos, but for now, I am just content if you all are content with the taste of this recipe! This recipe has been featured in a gluten-free cookbook once upon a time.
When I first started making this, I hadn’t been diagnosed with any food allergies yet. However, since being diagnosed with a gluten allergy, a dairy allergy, and a soy allergy, this has become a favorite dessert of mine. My kids enjoy it too. As long as you blend everything until smooth, your kids may never even know there is something good in it! (Just a tip).
The one thing I did want to point out in this recipe is the usage of agave nectar. Originally, I used only agave nectar in this. However, in recent years, I discovered it triggered migraines for me. So now I stick to honey when making my chocolate avocado pudding. If you are prone to migraines, you may want to consider honey instead.
If you have made this recipe, please let me know what you think. Also, be sure to pin it for future use! Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog for more healthy recipes and misfit parenting fun!
I love using avocados like this!
I am pretty intrigued by this recipe. I love chocolate and this sounds good!
I need to update my photos on this one as I wrote this a long time ago, but this is a favorite of ours. It has also been featured in a cookbook and other things. Also, we have used this as a base for a pie too
This does sound really good. I make chocolate pudding all the time, but haven’t tried it with avocado, I like that you don’t have to cook it, both for cleanup, but also any extra nutrients that heat doesn’t destroy!
