With a very active family, setting aside family movie nights and family time in general is super important. However, making it work with everyone’s interests sometimes takes a bit of work, so I thought I would give some tips on how to make your next family movie night a super success!

Snacks

Our snack selection is always super important. It doesn’t take much though to give a bit of flair to make your kids feel super special.

One thing I like to do is to make a small candy or snack buffet. You put a few different candies or snacks into clear or colorful containers with little scoops (or colorful plastic spoons if you have them). Give each person a bag and have them fill their bags with their selections. If you worry about messes in your living room or wherever you are hosting your movie, keep an activity tray handy. I use one for Crankles just for these occasions!

How to Pick Your Movie

If you want to host a weekly movie night, then one thing you could do is let each family member have a turn in picking the movie. However, if you have small children that watch the same two movies ALL THE TIME, maybe it might be best to pick a new movie on your own. You could also peruse Netflix and see what new movies are available and put it through a vote. The goal is to try to come up with a movie in which everyone can agree. For us, I tend to listen to the kids talk about movies that were recently in theaters that we didn’t get to see. I make a note of it and then wait for them to become available on a streaming service. Sometimes we also use Vudu or Google Play to purchase movies on sale to watch.

Movie nights are a great way to just snuggle up as a family and unwind. I look forward to cuddling on the couch or my big recliner with all three of my kids and my husband. Just spending time together makes me happy. How do you do family movie nights?

  2. A perfect little gift for any good friend or teen birthday. Our last movie together was the first Mission: Impossible, which my daughter found extremely confusing but she finds all spy/police movies hard to follow.
