Ultimate Halloween Guide for Kids and Families!

Let’s Talk Halloween Movie and TV Special Favorites

Spooky season is my favorite time of year! One of our favorite activities this time of year is to watch all our spooky favorites at least once!

Since I am not a big fan of scary movies and have a little one, here are some of the ones we love that are great for kids of all ages!

  • Nightmare Before Christmas- We have seen this at least 10 times already this year. Also, it doubles as a Christmas movie. Don’t even argue with me. You know it’s true!
  • Casper the Movie- I have loved this movie since my teenage years, and no Halloween in our house is complete without watching it.
  • Addams Family- They are creepy and kooky and give Halloween family goals!
  • It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown- I always get so much nostalgia from this one as I have been watching this since I was a kid and love that I get to do it with my kids!
  • Super Monsters Save Halloween- This one is great for families with small children. This Netflix show is a favorite in my house, and the story is super cute!
  • Coraline- Okay, so it isn’t a Halloween movie per se, but it is creepy and fun to watch this time of year!
  • Hocus Pocus- Did you think I would forget about the quintessential Halloween family movie? I have been watching this one since I was a kid, and it is a family favorite in this house!

Finding Fun Halloween Activities as A Family

One of our favorites is hitting up our favorite pumpkin patch. In our area, we have a lot of places to visit to pick pumpkins, plus other activities like hay rides, corn mazes, and children’s activities!

Pumpkin Sensory Play

After finding your pumpkin, then you have another fun activity: pumpkin carving! Pumpkin carving, while messy, is still lots of fun and a great tradition to have as a family!

Also, make sure you “carve” some time to make some fun Halloween treats. Get some festive cookie cutters and make cut-out cookies. Make some candy apples or even popcorn balls. The treats also make great snacks for Halloween movie nights!

Halloween Themed Games

Playing games as a family is always fun. This Spooky Cards Game is fun for kids of all ages, and you can adapt it to fit your family!

Scavenger Hunts are also fun and can fill a weekend afternoon. For the Scavenger Hunt printable I am sharing with you, I provided a few blank spaces for you to add your own! You can do this by going for a drive, using your computer or tablet, or looking around the house! You could also do this while watching movies to see what ones you find in the movies you watch! The possibilities are up to you!

Add Some Candy and Costume Fun!

One of our favorite new traditions since the pandemic is a Boo Basket! Boo Baskets are baskets filled with treats, just for Halloween. You can use them in place of trick or treating, for those of you with small children. However, we fill a Boo Basket for our older kids as a gift from the Switch Witch after they set out their extra candy for her on Halloween! My kids love them!

That’s a Wrap!

I hope you found all these tips and ideas helpful! This Ultimate Halloween Guide for Kids is based all on things we like to do and gives a great variety for kids of all ages!
